The One Secret To Kim Kardashian's Sleek Ponytail
When it comes to updos, layers are a girls worst enemy — but not anymore. Kim Kardashian uses a straightener to get a sleek ponytail, and this hair hack is almost too good to be true. Who knew that the one product that you were probably already using would be the key to taming those pesky fly-aways? Leave it to Kim K to save the day, once again.
Unlike the often pricey hair products that she recommends on her blog, her latest hair hack won't cost you a penny as long as you already have a straightener you like around the house. Kardashian shot a video for her blog with hairstylist Michael Silva to show how to get the perfect slicked-back pony, and you won't believe how easy it is. You know those tiny baby layers that stick up when you try and get the perfect high pony? Well consider them gone with a few glides of a straightener.
Start by slicking back the hair and secure it with a ponytail holder like you usually would. Then comes the simple trick that will forever change your pony game. Silva separates the ponytail into sections and goes over them a few times with a flatiron. Once he gets to the top baby layers, they lay flat with all the other layers, which makes them blend in and go unnoticed. It doesn't get easier than this!
Even a hair beginner could pull off the sleekest of ponytails with this advice. Just look at how fabulous the finished product is.
I would have never guessed that she had the same problems with fly-away hairs as I do.
While some of her sisters shied away from updos for a while, Kardashian has always loved the slicked-back looks. If her most recent hair tip was the secret behind her amazing ponys, then you better believe I'll be trying to recreate them. Just look at how fierce her go-to updos have been over the years.
1. Low Fishtail
The low fishtail braid might not have been the star of the outfit compared to her lace belly-bearing outfit, but it was definitely fabulous.
Sleek and sophisticated is a trend for Kardashian.
2. Triple French Braids
After people saw her rocking the updo on New Years Eve, french braids have been super popular. Kardashian gave the double braid an updated twist by adding three braids this time.
3. Wrap-Around Ponytail
Kardashian added a little bit extra to her slicked-back low ponytail on the InStyle Awards red carpet. It was the perfect way to jazz up the typical ponytail.
4. High Ponytail
She makes the classic hairstyle seem so high fashion, and now I know her secret!
It's perfect for any occasion.
5. Braided Bun
From the front this looks like your typical bun, but when she turns to the side, you can tell that the bun is actually made out of a braid.
Not only is it fierce, but it's a great way to get hair out of your face for the night.
6. Messy Topknot
She doesn't rock this look too often, but I'm willing to bet the messy topknot is a go-to for hanging around the house.
7. Faux Half Up
This isn't a complete updo, but it's the perfect way to fake the look. Instead of pinning back sections, Kardashian actually just slicked them back to get the hair off of her face.
She might be known for her bodycon dresses and belly-bearing gowns, but she sure does know a thing of two about hair as well!
