Britney's Outfit Won The 2001 Super Bowl
Super Bowl Sunday is this weekend, and there's no denying the fact that Beyonce is going to absolutely slay, but nothing in my mind can top Britney Spears' 2011 Super Bowl halftime show outfit. This moment goes down as a pivotal moment in Britney Spears fandom, and on the 50th anniversary of the Super Bowl, I think it deserves some revisiting.
When Spears was chosen to play the halftime show in 2001, it was basically the peak of her career at that point. Add in 'NSYNC and Aerosmith and it was just next-level iconic. But as over-the-top as the show was, nothing stood out more than her outfit. Britney has set some fashion trends in her day, from her crop tops to her hats, and she used the Super Bowl as an opportunity to grace us with another incredibly weird but still somehow totally covetable fashion trend: the tube arm sock. It sounds so strange, but you totally loved it and absolutely wore one to school the next day. Don't deny it. There are pictures out there somewhere.
The outfit as a whole was actually seriously rockin' and totally cemented Brit Brit's cool girl status. I mean, who else could pull off silver, metallic, skin-tight pants?
With stripes on the side.
Ugh, Britney, you're too cool. And then there was that ripped up cropped top, because she was a badass playing the Super Bowl.
Oh yeah. Also, shoutout to those little braids in her hair. I always tried to replicate this edgy hairstyle, and somehow ended up with massive, fat braids on the side of my head, secured with thick black elastics. C-u-t-e.
But nothing was better than that tube sock on her arm.
Because it literally made no sense at all, but it was still everything you wanted to be.
You never questioned anything she did, because she's Britney, b***h. So great.
