Duck Dynasty's ratings may be falling drastically thanks to the Robertson family patriarch Phil Robertson's homophobic and racist comments to GQ , but apparently, that doesn't mean members of the family won't be present for major political events that take place in Washington. You know, even though it kind of should, because the Robertson family are all reality stars and don't really have a place in the U.S. Government. That would be logical, and therefore silly, right? So, according to Deadline: Duck Dynasty star Willie Robertson will join Rep. Vance McAllister at the State of the Union Address tonight.
OK, honestly speaking, I'm not sure how we're supposed to take this whole address seriously knowing a reality star from Duck Dynasty is going to be there. As Deadline points out, the State of the Union Address has become "one of a handful of Washington’s Celebrity Petting Zoos" — similar to the White House Correspondents Dinner — but still. It's like having Kim Kardashian there or something: She has no place there, and neither does Willie Robertson.
The news of Robertson's planned attendance was officially announced by McAllister himself on his Twitter account, according to Politico:
As Deadline points out, McAllister is technically returning a favor to Robertson, who starred in a TV ad supporting McAllister's 2013 special election campaign. The family — Phil specifically — also endorsed McAllister.
The State of the Union Address will take place tonight at 9 p.m. ET.
