Did The Groundhog See Its Shadow?

It's Groundhog Day, which means we all woke up eager to discover the answer to that age-old and annual question — did the groundhog see his shadow? Well, ditch those jackets, everybody. I've got good news. Punxsutawney Phil didn't see his shadow this morning, meaning that we're all apparently in for an early spring. The fact that he made this prediction on the very morning that there's a major winter storm headed towards my area? Well, that's neither here nor there. Because, you guys, this furry little rodent doesn't lie. He has his degree in groundhog meteorology or something. If nothing else, he's super cute.

Alright, so maybe this chubby little thing can't actually forecast the weather. And, he's probably not qualified to even give us false hope. But, considering it's a Tuesday during one of the bleakest, grayest months of the winter, let's choose to look on the bright side and take Punxsutawney Phil's prediction at face value. Honestly, I'm not about to go toe-to-toe with a groundhog, and I could use a little positivity smack dab in the middle of winter.

Still not a believer in Phil's wisdom? Well, I've rounded up four signs you should actually believe that spring is on its way. Because whether it takes a few more weeks or a few more months, it'll be here eventually. And that, my friends, is worth looking forward to.

1. The cold weather doesn't feel as brutal anymore

Is it just me, or are those freezing temperatures not as unbearable? That slightly warmer air must be a sign of spring. Either that, or I've just grown accustomed to frigid weather. But, that hypothesis makes me far too sad, so we'll stick with the first one.

2. It's almost Valentine's Day

The holiday of romance is fast approaching. And, while it may not be enough to warm the temperatures, it's definitely enough to warm your heart. Even better? The first official day of spring is March 20. So, after Valentine's Day is over, we only have a little over a month to go before the flowers start blooming and the birds start chirping!

3. Hibernation is ending

Do you know why Groundhog Day always happens on Feb. 2? Male groundhogs usually come out of hibernation in February in order to find a mate. Sure, they immediately head back down into the ground until March arrives. But, surely, the fact that they even briefly come out of hibernation must be an indication that the seasons are about to turn, right? Plus, I heard birds chirping the other day. That has to mean something.

4. The stores are prepared

Whether it's Easter decorations, patio furniture, or a rack full of bikinis, retailers are already stuffing their shelves full of spring and summer items. Seeing all of those warm weather goodies after trudging my way into the store in my snow boots? It's equal parts cruel and exciting.
