"Grease" was the word on Sunday night, as Fox's live musical was a huge hit. Vanessa Hudgens' stood out in her role as Rizzo. Given the fact that she faced devastating personal news the night before the show, it's beyond inspiring she gave the stellar performance she did. On Saturday night, Hudgens lost her father Greg to stage 4 cancer and decided to dedicate the performance in his honor. A beautiful tribute, for sure. Hudgens' longtime boyfriend Austin Butler was there to show this support. He posted several congratulatory tweets throughout the performance and said he was "so proud." Butler wrote,
WOW @VanessaHudgens singing 'Worst Things' had me in tears. Just brilliant #GreaseLive
It's so sweet that Butler was there, cheering on his girlfriend every step of the way. He also wrote, "#GreaseLive is MIND-BLOWING! Constant chills @VanessaHudgens." He's not the only one who applauded Hudgens and her skills. Many celebrities — from Sarah Hyland to Ashley Tisdale to Wilmer Valderrama — posted tweets of support.
This also isn't the first time the two had each other's backs. Here's a recap of all the times that Hudgens and Butler were there for one another. They're a power couple, in every sense of the phrase.
1. At Grease: Live
Fans snagged this screenshot of Butler sitting on set during the run-through. It's awesome to see he's right up front, watching with pride.
Plus, all of his supportive messages during the show were an added bonus. He also retweeted Hudgens' posts about her father and dedicating the show to him.
2. On The Red Carpet
Along with a photo from the premiere of Butler's The Shannarra Chronicles , Hudgens wrote the sweetest caption. She said,
SOOOOO PROUD OF MY MAN @austinbutler #theshannarrachronicles is one of the best shows I've ever seen. Not even kidding. Yes Austin is amazing but the show as a whole is absolutely phenomenal. Get ready for a new obsession. January 5th!!!!!!!
They're always by one another's side at premiere. Just like Butler's comments during Grease, it sounds like Hudgens is his biggest fan.
3. After Austin's Mom Died
Sadly, Butler is no stranger to cancer. He lost his mom to the terrible illness back in September 2014. Last August, Hudgens dedicated an award to his mom Lori, and her own dad who was still fighting his battle. She said,
Last year, my boyfriend, Austin, lost his mom, Lori, to cancer, and my dad has just been recently diagnosed with stage four cancer. Let me tell you, I hate cancer. I hate cancer with every cell of my being ... This award, it means a lot to me but I dedicate it to my boyfriend's mom, Lori, my dad, and to all the families out there who are struggling with this, because it really takes a strong person and a strong family to be able to help those out who are going through this.
Although it's a devastating thing for them to have in common, it's great to see they're there for one another through the hardest times. As she says herself, they're both incredibly strong people.
4. For The Major Milestones
On each other's birthdays, they're sure to make their love known. When Hudgens turned 27 in December, Butler referred to her as "the light of my life." So sweet!
Through the good and bad, these two have one another's backs. And at the end of the day, that's what matters most.
