'Grease Live!' Skipped A Fan Favorite Song

by Caitlin Gallagher

If you tuned into Fox on Sunday night, you might've noticed something a little off. One of the most memorable songs from Grease the movie was notably missing from Grease Live!. Sandy's lovelorn ballad about Danny during the Pink Ladies' sleepover, "Hopelessly Devoted To You" wasn't in Grease Live! during that scene. Let the outrage begin! Update: Grease Live! did include "Hopelessly Devoted To You," but it moved the performance to during the school dance, rather than the Pink Ladies' sleepover. You can watch her performance in the video below.

With Sandy not having an Australian accent, add skipping "Hopelessly Devoted To You" to the list of laments that fans of the Grease movie have about Fox's live musical production. Instead of Julianne Hough singing "Hopelessly Devoted To You" after Rizzo climbs out of Frenchy's window to hang with Kenickie, she did a reprise of "Look at Me, I'm Sandra Dee" while applying red lipstick in the mirror. (Foreshadowing, people! First, it's the red lipstick. Next, it's leather pants.) However, it's really nothing to get too riled up about since "Hopelessly Devoted To You" was not in the original Broadway version. And if you really want to hear Hough sing the song, she did record a version of it for the Grease: Live soundtrack.

If you really missed Olivia Newton-John seeing reflections of John Travolta's face in a baby pool, then relive it by watching the clip from the movie below. But I suggest you get back to Grease Live! for its other dynamic versions of Grease's famous musical numbers.
