Honestly, when is the ensemble cast of Game of Thrones going to get the recognition they deserve? Game of Thrones was snubbed at the SAG Awards, and I'm honestly worried that all of the best actors are going to be killed off before the show gets its due.
The 2016 award instead went to Downton Abbey which, to be fair, has probably killed off the same percentage of its characters — but still! The HBO series has been nominated for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series in 2012, 2014, and 2015. This is the cast's fourth nomination and they have yet to take home the trophy.
It was an uneven season of Game of Thrones, sure, but that ensemble cannot be denied. There isn't a weak link, and so many have grown and changed tremendously on this series. Whether you liked what went down in Westeros or not, Season 5 was one of the most challenging for its actors and gave us some of the best performances to date from Peter Dinklage, Sophie Turner, Lena Headey, Kit Harrington, Maisie Williams, Emilia Clarke, Gwendoline Christie, and the list goes on! I know everybody in that room wants to know all about Jon Snow, so it's curious that they didn't vote for them.
Is it difficult for the guild to take this fantasy series seriously? While a lot of genre movies have gotten series recognition lately — the SAG Awards do not seem to have not followed suit. The stunt team did win a SAG Award on Saturday evening, so that's something to cheer about. Still, it's a shame to see the Game of Thrones cast snubbed once again. I'm just gonna sacrifice some King's blood, I mean, keep my fingers crossed for next time, I suppose.
