These Mary-Kate & Ashley Are So Cringe-Worthy
We all know that the Olsen twins have impeccable style. Since their Full House days, they've been influencing fashion in a big way. I can't be the only one who diligently studied their outfits to replicate them, right? Back in the day it seemed like they knew all the fashion secrets, but if you look at some of their outfits from their youth, you might question their sanity. What seemed like a great idea in 1997 seems like a train wreck by today's fashion standards. There are definitely some Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen outfits from the '90s that you loved back then but will totally hate today.
Luckily for the Olsen twins, their look has changed a whole lot since the It Takes Two days. Gone are the matching outfits featuring weird patterns and totally weird cargo pants. Actually, the twins still coordinate their outfits sometimes, but the clothes are much better than before. Their style has evolved for better over the years, and they even have their fashion empire to prove it.
Although you can take some fashion tips from their '90s looks, I wouldn't try fully recreating them today. Denim overalls with 3D flowers all over them just won't earn you the compliments that they did back in 1993. If you are still totally obsessed with the Olsens, maybe try recreating looks from their fashion line rather than the outfits they wore when they were little kids? If you can't believe you'd actually hate anything the Olsen twins would wear, take a look at the list below.
1. Sailor Collar
Although I am a fan of the sailor look, this red polka dot dress with a massive collar is just too much.
2. Flower Crowns
Between the flower crowns, velvet tops, and wrinkled full skirts, I'm not sure where to start with this. Don't even talk to me about those black shoes paired with white socks...
3. Matching Separates
Matching separates have been coming back into style recently, but I doubt any of you would be caught wearing these.
4. Floral Overalls
Faded denim overalls paired with flowers and zig zag design outlines is so not 2016.
5. Faux Vests
Apparently embroidered faux vests attached to ill-fitting white shirts were all the rage in 1993. Not so much today.
6. Plaid
I'm not even sure what's happening here. The twins sported plain white t-shirts tucked into extremely high-waisted skirts with suspenders.
7. Double Trouble
The Olsen twins wore the same tank and skirt combos in opposing primary colors. The matching purses really take this look over the edge.
8. Cowgirls
Here we see the overall trend taken to a whole other level in dress form. If it wasn't Western enough, they added red bandanas to their pony tails and some serious cowboy boots.
9. Colorful
They decided to use all colors of the rainbow in this look, centered around some seriously plaid overalls.
10. Pastels
This look featuring pastel pink and baby blue screams '90s elementary school attire.
11. Jeans
The fit of the jeans in this look is quintessential '90s.
12. Bandana
I really can't picture anyone wearing a bandana like this today.
13. Capri Pants
These loose-fitting capri pants were all the rage in 1999. Here's to hoping they never come back again.
14. Cardigan
A cardigan with only the top button closed is not a good look for 2016 and that weird graphic tee isn't much better.
15. Muted Browns
I can't decide if Mary-Kate's sweatshirt tied around the waist look is worse than Ashley's brown floral skirt ensemble.
16. Matching Florals
Floral silk coordinating separates paired with tiny sunglasses couldn't be more '90s appropriate.
17. Athletic Pants
Mary-Kate took athleisure to a very weird place in 1998.
18. Puke Green
I don't remember these shades of green being popular in the '90s, but apparently the Olsen twins were big fans.
19. Girly & Sporty
Ashley took the super girly route by wearing a black skirt and crazy floral jacket. Mary-Kate went all sporty with a baseball print t-shirt, plaid shirt tied around the waist, and platform sneakers.
20. Little Black Dresses
Although the little black dress is still super popular today, these floral versions should really stay in the '90s.
21. Cherries
Gotta love (or hate) Ashley's cherry printed cardigan.
22. Tiered Lace Dresses
The twins went for matching lace dresses with tiered skirts, like something a porcelain doll from the Victorian era might wear.
23. Tie-Dye
I'm pretty sure I owned something similar to this tie-dye dress and cardigan combo back in the day. Would not wear again!
