Rob Kardashian Latest Move Is A Fresh Start
New Year, new Rob Kardashian. Almost a month after his diabetes diagnosis, Rob Kardashian shared his first selfie since being released from the hospital — a rare photo indeed. But perhaps what's more is that Rob has deleted all of his previous Instagram photos, leaving his Insta grid completely bare except for his latest selfie. It's a decidedly fresh start for the reclusive Kardashian, who has shied away from the spotlight to the point where he chose not to attend his sister Kim Kardashian's wedding to Kanye West and is no longer on Keeping Up With the Kardashians. I get it: Sometimes you just need to have a clean break, leave the past in the past, and start anew. And it seems like that's exactly what Rob is doing with his Instagram account.
In his rare selfie — only the second he's posted in years — the picture focuses prominently on his hazel eyes, his mouth covered by a bandana. The sock designer captioned the picture simply with two devil emojis.
Though the 28-year-old former reality star has kept mum on his health, the rest of his family has been outspoken about his diagnosis, with sister Khloé Kardashian setting the tone on Good Morning America :
"He got out [of the hospital] before the New Year, so I was like, 'OK, let's leave all that stuff then. Listen, you found out what the problem is. Let's tackle it head on.'"
It's a sentiment that Rob appears to be echoing in his social media presence. Leaving "all that stuff" in the past year — his reclusiveness, his outlook on life, all of his previous pictures — seems like the attitude that he is embodying in 2016. And he's clearly starting with Instagram: Out with the old, in with the new. And in this case, the "new" seems to be more selfies, hopefully a sign that Rob is feeling healthier and more confident within himself.
His mother, Kris Jenner, also revealed that her son wants to get back on Keeping Up With the Kardashians.
"Well, he's still part of the show. He's had a year where he kind of wanted to chill," she recently explained. "He hasn't been feeling well. We didn't really know why. He was just diagnosed with diabetes so we're taking care of that, but he's always around."
Khloé, who is perhaps the sibling closest with Rob (they live together), recently explained on an episode of Watch What Happens Live that the death of their father was something that contributed to her brother's depression — particularly the fact that he didn't fully deal with it until after graduating from high school.
"He kind of had no direction and I feel like he felt lost there. I think that’s when he started dealing with my father’s passing," Khloé remarked. "And then breakups and all this stuff happened, which I think added to other things in his life, but it’s issues he had to deal with from the start that he just didn't."
Hopefully, Rob's diabetes diagnosis is not only just a wakeup call for his physical health, but it's one for his mental health as well.
