Bernie Sanders' Side-Eye Won The Dem Debate

by Hillary E. Crawford

During Sunday's fourth Democratic debate, conversation between Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton reached a level of heat viewers had yet to witness. The two candidates became more aggressive than usual in their attacks against each other, but the real star of the showdown was Bernie Sanders' side-eye, prompted by Hillary Clinton, of course. The reaction sparked creativity among viewers, who are bringing the famous side-eye to the streets, where it applies to more than just debate jargon. Sanders' side-eye was initially inspired by former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's remarks about his lack of support for Obama.

Where we disagree is the comments that Senator Sanders has made that don't just affect me, I can take that, but he's criticized President Obama for taking donations from Wall Street, and President Obama has led our country out of the Great Recession. Senator Sanders called him weak, disappointing. He even, in 2011, publicly sought someone to run in a primary against President Obama.

Uh oh. Sanders' didn't even really need to respond. His eyes said it all. The Democratic candidates were especially aggressive because at this point, they each have a lot to lose... or win. The fourth debate, hosted in Charleston, marked the last before the Iowa caucuses, which will help to determine the primary Democratic candidate in the presidential race. In the Iowa polls, the two candidates are nearly tied, with Sanders trailing Clinton by just two points. In preparation, here's a look at some situations that call for the Sanders side-eye.
