The last time Taraji. P Henson graced the Golden Globes red carpet was in 2009. She wore a floor-length, cap-sleeved gown and looked fresh-faced and doe-eyed. That is not the case tonight — Taraji P. Henson's Golden Globes 2016 gown is far from cute — it's ethereal. Henson's dramatic all white ensemble is fierce, sexy, and chic, a definite upgrade from her look seven years ago.
Although Henson's acting skills have never been questioned, her fashion sense, particularly her red carpet style, has definitely evolved over the years. Perhaps this has just come with age — as you grow older, you become more comfortable and confident with your style. However, if I were to guess, I'd say it's likely thanks to her onscreen counterpart, the foxy fashionista Cookie Lyon. How could you not be influenced by such a sassy and oh-so-stylish diva? Tonight, it's clear that Henson has paid homage to Lyon (after all, she is nominated for playing the character) with tonight's look.
I'm particularly obsessed with the fact that Henson decided to wear a bold, yet simple all white gown gown. It's not a color most people try to pull off at an awards show, but Henson proves she's capable of doing anything, and doing it perfectly. While I was completely smitten with her Alexander Wang Emmys dress, I might argue that this is her best awards show look yet.
The cape train in the back is something I've never seen before — it's like an update to the old school long train. It definitely raises the drama factor on Henson's gown by 100 percent, but also, how much more fun would it be to walk around with a cape!? The cape train elevates her strapless gown, bringing it from basic to badass. Honestly, though, what else did you expect from Cookie Lyon herself?
Just last night, Taraji P. Henson attended the BET Celebration of Gospel and stunned in a black ensemble, with her hair pulled back and up, away from her face. Tonight, however, Henson decided to go in a different direction, rocking the 2015's trendiest 'do — a casual, messy lob. I think it gives her angelic gown the necessary Empire edge it needs.
When Taraji. P Henson found out she was nominated for a Golden Globe this year, she was fast asleep. But there's absolutely nothing sleepy about her look tonight — Henson is wide awake and ready to claim her prize and her throne, if not for Best Actress in a TV Drama series, then for best dressed of the evening.
