Some of these online stars manage to bring their online fame into the real world, like King Bach, but what about the opposite? Is there an actual TV star who has managed to maintain his popularity through Vine? Yes, and that's Drake & Josh's Josh Peck.
Josh starred in the Nickelodeon series alongside Drake Bell and Miranda Cosgrove from 2004 to 2008 and has since had roles in movies like Red Dawn and Aliens in the Attic, as well as appearances on The Mindy Project and The Big Bang Theory. On Drake & Josh, one of the few kids shows that was legitimately funny, Josh proved he had comedic ability and with VIne he has shown that he can be just as funny in seven seconds as he could in a half hour. The 27-year-old actor has 3.8 million followers on Vine, and they can't all just be Drake & Josh fans, since he only has 1.2 million Twitter followers. On Vine Josh has cultivated a following that seems to be made of fans both old and new.
Some of his most popular videos are when he mocks teenage girls, like the recent video below.
In four days, that Vine has gotten 76,000 likes and 61,000 revines. This One Direction-inspired Vine is even more popular, with 145,000 likes.
Other versions of his teenage girl parody have gotten over 200,000 likes, however that doesn't compare to what happened when he directly referenced Drake & Josh. To celebrate getting to 3 million followers, Josh posted a Vine saying two of his most memorable lines from the series.
That Vine has over 350,000 likes and 223,000 revines. Still, a Drake & Josh mention doesn't guarantee that kind of popularity. The video below also references a fan-favorite episode of the series and after five days has 136,000 likes.
So Josh's Nickelodeon past isn't solely responsible for his Vine fame. You can even compare by looking at the other half of Drake & Josh. Drake rarely uses his Vine and only has 551,000 followers, even though he has a much larger Twitter following than Josh, with almost 3 million followers.
According to their Vines, there is something that Drake and Josh still share — fans constantly asking them where the other one is. Sorry guys, but that's what happens when you star on a beloved Nickelodeon show.
Josh may have brought his fame to Vine, but it's going to take a lot more of those teenage girl impressions for people to forget where he came from.
