Chris Rock's First Oscar Promo Is Here
If you're a fan of all things Hollywood, then the Oscars are pretty much your Super Bowl. There is still a while to go before the 88th Annual Academy Awards air on Feb. 28, but fortunately, the nominations are right around the corner. You'll find out which films, stars, and crews have been nominated for a golden statue on Jan. 14, which means that it's time to start your Oscar pool now. (I'll be throwing all of my money on Cate Blanchett's performance in Carol.) While we're all still waiting for some serious info on what the 2016 Oscars will look like, there is one thing that you can know to expect, and that's Chris Rock as the show's host. The Top Five actor is returning to the awards show following his 2005 stint, and he released a new promo for the Oscars on New Year's Eve that proves he's up for slaying the show in 2016.
Rock might be just the comedian to shake up the Academy Awards, and if I'm being honest, the awards ceremony could definitely use some shaking. In addition to typically being the whitest event of the year (as in, none of the 20 acting nominations of 2015 went to a person of color) the ceremony itself lacked any real memorable moments. There were few occasions that felt worthy of a second viewing the day after, save for a few epic musical numbers by films that were ultimately snubbed. In short, the 87th Academy Awards lacked pizzazz. Let's hope that the same fate doesn't meet the 2016 show.
Fortunately, that seems unlikely: Rock has heaps of pizzazz, and his new promo is a nice reminder that viewers are getting one very funny host for Hollywood's biggest night of the year. While he won't have a say in what movies gets nominated this year, I think everyone is already winning with Rock as the Oscar host.
