Are Miley & Liam Back Together?

Once upon a time, Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth were the hottest It Couple to strut the red carpet. The former Disney darling and the Hunger Games star were certainly a beautiful pair, and it didn't hurt that they also happened to meet while co-starring in the tear-inducing and adaptation of Nicholas Sparks' romance novel The Last Song. Sadly, Cyrus and Hemsworth ended their engagement in September of 2013 after three years of on-and-off-again dating. But is that the end of their love story? According to new reports from Sydney's Daily Telegraph, Cyrus and Hemsworth spent New Year's together. Be still our beating hearts.

According to the report, the pop star and the actor were seen "cuddling and kissing" at the Falls Music Festival at Byron Bay in New South Wales, Australia, on Sunday night. The former couple reportedly hung out in the VIP area alongside Hemsworth's brother Chris and his wife Elsa Pataky, where they were "very affectionate." According to the Daily Telegraph, security guards were able to protect the former couple from fans happy to snap a pic of the allegedly cozy exes.

There may not be photos of the famous former couple on New Years, but the mental picture is enough to make fans freak out. Still, should this be taken as a sign that Cyrus and Hemsworth are headed towards a couple reunion? I'm skeptical. Even if the hang-out at the Falls Music Festival did happen, it doesn't necessarily mean that Cyrus and Hemsworth are secretly romancing one another behind the world's back. The former couple has been open about their deep love and friendship, and hanging out on New Years may just be another example of how these exes are super chill with one another.

In an October 2015 interview for Men's Fitness, Hemsworth only had nice things to say about his ex, even saying that he still cares about Cyrus. Cyrus echoed those statements in an earlier October interview for Elle UK, stating that she and Hemsworth "are still so close" and "love each other." The former couple solidified their friendship when Cyrus helped Hemsworth adopt a dog in November. Clearly, these two are totally okay with hanging out as pals.

But does the fact that these exes are buds mean that their alleged New Years plans are totally platonic? There's always room for hope that these two may reunite as more than just friends, but until there's some concrete evidence that they've fallen back in love, I'm going to continue with the skepticism.
