Twitter Reacts To One Direction's NYE Performance

by Olivia Truffaut-Wong

One Direction performed three times for Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve to help ring in 2016. The boys — Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Liam Payne and Louis Tomlinson — took the stage in California for a set of prerecorded performances, rumored to be their last U.S. performance before the group goes on hiatus in March. One Direction performed "Perfect," "Drag Me Down" and "History" as part of the Rockin' Eve celebration, and, while rumors that this will be the band's last performance until they (hopefully) reunite after a hiatus, fans on Twitter are reacting as if this is the end for One Direction. One Direction fans took to Twitter following their Rockin' Eve performances with sad tweets full of crying face emojis and emotional farewells.

During their short appearance, Liam assured fans that their planned break was simply that — a break. "This is just a short break for us for a while," he told Fergie, who hosted the Hollywood event. Fans, however, are skeptical. Still reeling from former member Zayn Malik leaving the group earlier this year, fans worried that, by announcing a hiatus, One Direction was really just preparing fans for the end. With such uncertainty in the air, 1D fans reacted to their Rockin' Eve performances with energy, dramatics, love and tears. Here are some of the best reactions.

After One Direction officially ended the night with "History" — a prerecorded performance that technically aired 30 minutes into 2016, fans once again took to Twitter to wish the group well, using the hashtag "1DForever."

Thanks for the memories, One Direction! May your 2016 end as it began: with the whole band together again.
