How To Clean Your Spoolie Brush

If the word spoolie brush stumps you, you're not alone. Although you probably use it every day, you might not know what it's called and worse, don't even think twice about cleaning it. ICYMI, a spoolie brush is a spiral brush with soft bristles — think: your mascara wand without the mascara, and a longer handle. If you use your brush often, knowing how to clean your spoolie brush correctly is important. Whether it's covered in mascara or brow gel, cleaning it couldn't be simpler.

If you've yet to let yourself become spoolie-obsessed, you need to give this nifty little wand brush a try! The brush has a plethora of uses. Bustle writer Miki Hayes deemed it one of the makeup brushes everyone should have in their beauty arsenal, and it can be used as an eyebrow filler and comb as well as an eyelash divider and volumizer. Additionally, Makeup.com pointed out that you can even use a spoolie as a lip exfoliator. All you do is dip it into your favorite exfoliating scrub and move across your lips in small circles before rinsing. I've yet to use my spoolie on my lips, but look forward to giving this idea a go!

When your spoolie does get dirty, cleaning it couldn't be simpler. All you need is three minutes, the right shampoo, and a clean towel.

1. Rinse Your Spoolie

Using cool water, simply wet your spoolie brush.

2. Apply Brush Shampoo

Purifying Brush Shampoo, $7, Sephora

Take a bit of brush shampoo and drop it onto the spoolie brush. Rub your fingers carefully over the brush in small circles until sudsy and old makeup has started to lift.

3. Rinse Again & Dry

Rinse off the soap and roll your now clean spoolie in a towel before placing it brushside-up in a cup to dry.
