What Does T. Swift's Music Video Clue Mean?!

There are only a few more hours standing between me and the New Year's Eve premiere of Taylor Swift’s “Out of the Woods” video, and it’s really the only thing I can think about. Forget plans with friends and finding enough champagne to keep me happy throughout the night — all I care about right now is Swift, and seeing that glorious video the minute it’s released. Which is why the tweet that Swift sent on Wednesday night, aka, the night before the video’s premiere, has me guessing all kinds of things. Because, seriously guys, what does this picture of Swift crawling through a ton of dirt mean?

Really it could be anything. This one image could be a small clip among many in her music video for “Out of the Woods,” but it could also be everything. What if the entire video features Swift as we’ve never seen her before, swimming in a sea of dirt and mud? Personally, I would love this idea, because it would truly be different for Swift, and sort of fitting for the title — I mean, "woods" are dirty, and the song is called "Out of the Woods."

Or, what if it means more than that?

Here are just a few of the ideas of what this still could mean about the video that immediately come to my mind when I look at the image, because, really, it could mean any number of things.

1. The Video Takes Place During A Tough Mudder

Because that’s what everyone looks like that I’ve ever seen come out of one of those things.

2. She’s Finally Going Brunette

That’s either the lighting, or Swift has finally come over to the dark side.

3. There’s Going To Be A Lot Of Crawling

I’m hoping that there is some groveling involved.

4. This Might Call For A Squad Appearance

I’m picturing them all coming out of the woods like something akin to Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” video.

5. This Is Swift Like We’ve Never Seen Her

Sure, we’ve seen her badass and we’ve seen her sweet, but we’ve never seen Swift covered in mud and looking the opposite of adorable.

6. Maybe She’s Rising From The Ashes

Like a phoenix... but, like, the dirt version of that.

7. There Might Be A Car Crash

It’s in the song, after all: She sings about 20 stitches in a hospital room, so it’s totally possible. Plus, that would totally explain her disheveled state in this photo.

Whatever this image means, it’s just getting me even more excited for the video to premiere tomorrow night on Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve.
