Seth Meyers & Alexi Ashe Are A Living Rom-Com
Despite being a popular late night host and celebrity, Seth Meyers is a fairly private guy. So, you may not know that Seth Meyers is married to Alexi Ashe and that they about to have their first child together. This begs the question, how did Meyers and Ashe meet? Because of my abounding curiosity, I did some homework on the matter at hand.
While my pop culture knowledge is vast and I knew that Meyers was married, I didn't really know who he was married to. But I assure you, Ashe is worth knowing. I mean, Neil Patrick Harris once said that she smells like heaven. And I'm not sure that a better compliment could be paid by the impossibly charismatic actor. As for some basics about Ashe, she is a lawyer and graduated from Southwestern University.
So, back to the matter at hand: How did they meet? Well, they did things in the style of a classic rom-com. It appears that the husband and wife met while two other people were becoming husband and wife. When asked about the meeting, Meyers told Your Tango, "I met her at Chris Kattan's wedding. Her sister worked in the set design department of SNL." See, people? Attending weddings, though expensive and time consuming, can sometimes be pretty great.
Apparently, Your Tango was hell bent on posing the hard hitting questions, because they asked Meyers if it was love at first sight for him. He replied, "Yes it was. I had a sense that she was the closest I'd ever met to someone who I could see myself with. Pretty much right away." I guess the only thing left to complete this full circle love story is naming their child Chris, or if they're bold enough, Kattan. Hey, it's got a ring to it.
Though, if they sound a little too perfect, don't worry. Things were not always this good for them. Case in point, Meyers and Ashe almost didn't get married. For real. In 2013, the host told David Letterman that Ashe got food poisoning at their rehearsal dinner and ended up having to go to the emergency room. He said,
I go to the emergency room. I meet her there, and she's just like knocked out, like fully knocked out on a gurney like a person looks before the end. A nurse walks in and just takes one look at her and says, "You're not getting married today." And it was like my wife turned into the star of an action movie who's been like knocked down and you think he's done and someone says, that villain says one last thing, and she like propped herself up on her elbows and she's like "I'm getting married today!"
I suppose meeting and getting married was just in their destiny, food poisoning obstacle and all. Let's just hope that Ashe's next visit to the hospital for the birth of their baby won't be as dramatic. But let's also hope that it breeds another ridiculous yet hilarious story for Meyers to gab about on his own talk show. Perhaps at his expense this time.
