Katherine McNamara Teases 'Shadowhunters' Spoilers

by Allyson Koerner

On Tuesday, Jan. 12 not only does ABC Family officially become Freeform, but the new series Shadowhunters premieres. The supernatural series, based on Cassandra Clare's bestselling novels The Mortal Instruments, follows 18-year-old Clary Fray who learns on her birthday that she's not just living in a human world — nor is she only human. She actually comes from a line of Shadowhunters, aka human-angel hybrids who hunt down demons. The highly anticipated series, especially for fans of the books, looks quite promising. Thankfully, there are some Shadowhunters spoilers from star Katherine McNamara to hold over fans until the series debuts.

In an interview with Bustle, McNamara is nice enough to dish about the upcoming premiere episode. Even though fans of the books probably think they know what to expect, the actor promises that the there are many similarities between the books and the TV show, but also many differences. Though it's known that Clary quickly becomes enwrapped in a world of faeries, warlocks, vampires, and werewolves, based on the emoji spoilers teased by McNamara, I think it's safe to say that the premiere episode has even more in store for viewers.

Actually, Shadowhunters appears to have a lot in common with The Vampire Diaries, The Originals, Supernatural, and any other supernatural show currently on the small screen. There's nothing wrong with that and makes me even more ready for the series. That said, let's decipher these spoilers.

The Gasping Face

Well, get ready for a lot of shocking moments. I mean, what else could the gasping face emoji mean? It seems like everyone is in store of some gasp-inducing moments, including those that are fans of the books. And here I thought Pretty Little Liars would be the only Freeform show putting me on the edge of my seat.

The Magic Sparkles

A lot of magic is coming your way. Seeing as Shadowhunters is a supernatural-based series, magic is to be expected. Does this mean magic tricks? Does this refer to magical beings, like vampires and faeries? Whatever those magic sparkles mean, the more magic the better, if I do say so myself.

The Moon

Wait. Does this mean TVD's Tyler Lockwood is headed to Shadowhunters? Is that where he's been hiding all this time? Is that what those flash-forwards mean? Probably not, but the moon emoji definitely points to werewolves, right? Teen Wolf, it looks like you have some major competition on the horizon.

The Heart

It wouldn't be a TV show without some romance. Based on the promos and premiere photos, it sure looks like McNamara's and Dominic Sherwood's characters have a lot of chemistry. That said, I'm sure Clary and Jace aren't the only characters attracted to one another. Have you seen the cast?

The Poof

So, this poof emoji has me both curious and confused. What could it possibly mean? Maybe someone is going to pull a disappearing act in the premiere episode? Or, there's a chance that a character's magical ability is them going "poof" and/or invisible. Whatever the case, color me intrigued.

Anyone else even more excited for Shadowhunters to premiere on Jan. 12?
