Steve Harvey Apologizes For Miss Universe Mistake

by Martha Sorren

Whoops! After an event that was pretty smooth sailing all night, Steve Harvey made a huge mistake while hosting Miss Universe. And by "huge mistake" I mean that Steve Harvey read the wrong winner's name accidentally giving the award to Miss Colombia before admitting his error and having Miss Philippines crowned instead. Everyone in the room was confused by the change in winners (including the actual victor Pia Wurtzbach), and Steve Harvey immediately apologized on camera. Later, the host also apologized on Twitter because the Internet was eating him alive, and he likely felt the need to express his continued regret.

But, it's worth noting that some have claimed he deleted his alleged first apology tweet after it had several spelling errors in it. NBC anchor Amanda Guerra shared a screenshot of what she claims was his original tweet, which allegedly read: "I want to apologize emphatically to Miss Philippians and Miss Columbia. This was a terribly honest human mistake and I am so regretful."

Unfortunately if that was his actual tweet as several news sites are reporting it is, he would have then spelled both "Philippines" and "Colombia" incorrectly. Yikes! Whether that was his actual tweet or not, Harvey later sent out a series of apology tweets (with everything spelled correctly) acknowledging his mistake and how terrible he feels.

Though nothing can take back what he did, I'm glad he admitted the error and took responsibility both during the live broadcast and on social media. Humans make mistakes, and sometimes the best we can do is just apologize.
