Tina Fey Says She & Amy Poehler Are "Alphas"

by Allyson Koerner

There are specific people in the entertainment industry known as the "big dogs." Usually, and unfortunately, they are seen as the men who are running Hollywood and creating masterpieces. Well, that door is opening up greatly for women and partially thanks to two comedy geniuses. Yep, there are two women who are also these so-called "top dogs." From Tina Fey's lips to your ears, Amy Poehler and Tiny Fey are "two alphas". Yeah, no surprise there.

In an interview with The EDIT, Fey talks about how cool both she and her Sisters co-star are and basically, she says what everybody is already thinking. Being at the top and having confidence isn't something anyone, especially women, should be afraid of. And that's exactly the message Fey is conveying. While opening up about first meeting Poehler, the former Saturday Night Live star said,

I met Amy Poehler in Chicago in 1993, when we were both studying improvisation. She was the cool girl. I remember counseling so many guys who were just immediately in love with her. It was a phase that every Chicago improviser had to go through — "I’m secretly in love with Amy." "Of course you are, I know."

Her story transitioned into praising not just Poehler, but also herself. She said,

Amy is very warm, a great person to have on your team in any capacity. We work together best — on [their new movie] Sisters, or presenting the Golden Globes — by doing our own thing next to each other. I do wonder, if we tried to do five years on a series together, if it would be like, "Wait a minute, which one of us is the boss?" Because, truthfully, I think we are two alphas.

Never have I ever heard truer words. Time and time again Fey and Poehler have shown that comedy can be driven by females. From Sisters to both being on SNL to Fey as Liz Lemon on 30 Rock to Poehler as Leslie Knope on Parks and Recreation, they've proven they are the leaders of comedy. When Fey and Poehler unite, they show the true power of women in comedy. They are the alphas.

It's important for women to realize they can be the top dog, just like Poehler and Fey, and here's such positive words from them definitely helps.
