Is This Natalie Portman Or Jackie Kennedy?

I love a good story from an alternate point of view. So, when I heard that LD Entertainment was producing the film Jackie , a movie told from the perspective of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis about the four days after President Kennedy’s assassination, I got all kinds of excited. I love how stories like this show a different side to a narrative we all know well, and who doesn’t want to see another perspective on the aftermath of such an enormous national tragedy? My enthusiasm was only magnified when I heard that Natalie Portman was set to play the First Lady. So when the first picture of Natalie Portman as Jackie Kennedy was released on Wednesday, I just about lost it. I think it took me a good ten minutes to pick my jaw up off the floor and come up with something to say about it, because, you guys, the likeness between Portman and Kennedy Onassis is legit.

Really, it’s stunning how incredible it is. Clearly the actress and the former first lady naturally share some common features: dark hair, dark eyes, and perfectly-plucked eyebrows, to be specific. But when I saw Portman as Jackie O, I had to do a double take and make sure I wasn’t looking at a candid shot of the former First Lady herself.

It has a lot to do with the way her hair is styled, of course, and what she’s wearing. Portman dons a very Jackie-esque top and skirt, similar to the ones that the former First Lady made famous. Her look is finished off with multiple strands of pearls for an outfit that is as timeless as the First Lady herself.

But there are other things that are helping the likeness come to life: It looks to me like Portman is wearing a little bit of makeup to make her cheekbones appear larger, probably to mimic the former First Lady, whose facial features were a little wider than Portman’s. Her lips, too, are drawn in a way that looks more like Kennedy Onassis’ and her eyebrows are filled in to look like the former First Lady’s.

Clearly the makeup team for this movie is totally on point. These similarities are absolutely incredible, and bodes will for the upcoming film. Something tells me that when it comes to capturing Jackie O's signature charm, Portman will be a total pro at that as well.
