'Supergirl' Will Be Back In A Flash

by Leah Marilla Thomas

With the return of Aunt Astra and Cat Grant facing an impending email hack scandal, Kara Zor-El has a lot on her plate as the midseason finale approaches. When does Supergirl return? At the risk of sounding corny, and that's a risk I'm always willing to take, the show will be back faster than a speeding bullet!

According to TVLine's January return date calendar, Supergirl will return Monday, Jan. 4 to CBS. That's not long at all! While some shows take an extended hiatus at midseason, we're only going to be without Kara and her compatriots for a few weeks. Three, to be exact. CBS will air reruns during those hiatus weeks, so if you're not caught up or want to get your friends on board, now is your chance.

I'm sure there will be some fun cliffhangers after Monday night's episode. What's in store when the show returns? Now that Hank Henshaw has been revealed to be a good guy, there might be a new mysterious threat or villain on the horizon. I'm sure the Kara, James, and Wyn love triangle will still be going strong. Other than that, here are some spoilers to get you speculating on the remainder of Supergirl Season 1.

Hank Is... Supergirl?

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, David Harewood explained that Martian Manhunter's shapeshifting abilities mean that he can become anyone in the cast. In Entertainment Weekly, he teased that one of those people he shapeshifts into will be Supergirl herself. Supergirl has had strength in humor thus far, so I'm looking forward to seeing what they do with this.

Variety recently announced that actress Italia Ricci has been cast as Siobhan Smythe, also known as the Silver Banshee in DC comics. We're also going to see a young Kal-El at some point, but the role has yet to be cast. Ricci is engaged to Flash and Arrow actor Robbie Amell IRL, which leads me to...

Melissa Benoist's husband is going to play Kara Danvers' love interest Adam Foster. How fun is that?

"Blood Bonds"

That's the name of Episode 9 and the midseason premiere. Does that have something to do with Astra? Wyn Schott's father? Alex and her missing dad? There are so many family connections on Supergirl, that this could go many ways when the show returns.
