Domhnall Gleeson Should Be Your New Crush

by Jordana Lipsitz

Stand down, Rupert Grint, there's a new adorable red-haired actor on the scene, and he's the new love of my life. I'm talking about Domhnall Gleeson, and I predict that he will soon be the obsession of many others, too. Why? Let me count the ways: for one, he was in Harry Potter playing Bill, who everyone knows is the hottest Weasley thanks to that long hair and curse-breaking in Egypt stuff. Then, there's his recent roles, which have deep range and are incredibly interesting: a programmer evaluating an artificially intelligent robot in Ex Machina, a ruthless officer in Star Wars: The Force Awakens , and a guy that's probably going to be murdered by Leonardo DiCaprio in The Revenant, among others. And the final, potentially most important reason for my crush? The man can really keep his calm.

In a recent interview with RTÉ Radio 1 show, the Irish 32-year-old, who was riding backseat in a taxi, politely and calmly proclaimed, "Oh, we just crashed." When the radio host Ryan Tubridy asked Gleeson if he was alright, he stumbled and stammered in the most precious way,

"No, in London, speeding towards - not speeding, going at a reasonable rate! I don't want to get this guy in trouble! Excellent driver! We're going to the airport."

He then proceeded to finish the interview, despite, you know, the car crashing. After being in a minor car accident, the calm, cool, and collected actor continued to talk about his upcoming roles, specifically Star Wars and its "absolutely insane" effect on the general populace. Which leads me to the only problem I have with my new soulmate — he admitted in the interview to only watching bits and pieces of the original Star Wars movies and those prequels as a child. He blamed it on the fact that he was born in '83 and didn't start watching movies intently till '89. All I gotta say to that is that this girl got herself a Star Wars box set for Christmas as a 7-year-old back in 1998, and I wasn't exactly born during the '70s. So Gleeson has no excuse.

Regardless, the rest of the interview is delightful, and Gleeson speaks with that sarcastic and self-effacing British humor that fans love so dearly. One of my favorite quotes speaks about his love of the movie-watching experience:

"When you go and there's a lot of people in the room and you all experience something at the same time there's a buzz about that. With stuff like Star Wars and The Revenant there's an excitement about what's happening on screen as well which does mean you're kind of turning to the person sitting next to you and saying, 'I can't believe this is happening!' And then they say, 'Please leave me alone; I don't know you'. And you just keep watching, if possible."

I love movies too, Domhnall. Please marry me and whisk me away to a small countryside town in Ireland where we can own several dogs, a few chickens, and horses. What do you think, ladies? Is Domhnall Gleeson the new big crush of 2016? It's seeming likelier and likelier by the (adorable) second.
