Taylor Swift Posted The Cutest '90s Throwback
I know I'm a product of the 1990s because I can be moved to tears in three seconds flat by the presence of the right OG Disney movie or an acid-washed jean. Show me anything in the shade of Lisa Frank neon or SNICK orange, and forget it, game over. So when, in honor of her 26th birthday on Sunday, Taylor Swift posted a cute Instagram throwback of her as a child back in the '90s with the caption, "Today I begin my 26th year of freaking out over stuff," my reaction was pretty huge. The Little Mermaid sweater with the giant backpack? Oh, man, it was too much.
And that was before I even processed that Swift posted the photo because she's turning 26 (!). The singer has had a huge year, and she has much to be thankful for, from her record-shattering release of 1989 to her accompanying around-the-world tour to her new boyfriend Calvin Harris to her first-ever Emmy Award. Seriously, the list of her achievements this past year goes on and on. (Meanwhile, I thought I was having a great year when I set my mind on shaving my legs every day. Clearly, T.Swift and I do not have the same standards.)
Unsurprisingly, members of the star's legendary "Bad Blood" squad, from Jaime King to Selena Gomez, are already coming out to wish the singer and future President of the United States a Happy Swift Day. On Saturday, King, whose second child, Leo, calls Taylor Swift his godmother, posted a heartfelt message with a photo of the singer King apparently had taken herself. "Dear Tay — Tomorrow is your birthday and I will be in the air," the actress wrote, before praising the singer for her "uncanny ability to just get straight into the Soul's of us all in one shot" and for "bring[ing] this sisterhood to life." I'm not one to use the term loosely, but major #squadgoals.
Meanwhile, pals like Gigi Hadid and Selena Gomez wasted no time in taking to Instagram with birthday wishes for their famous friend. Alongside a photo of the two onstage together during Swift's 1989 tour, Gomez included a throwback from the era when Taylor still wore curls everywhere, posting, "I don't know life without you Taylor. Happy birthday!"
Hadid joined in on the celebrations, posting a gif of the two hugging it out at the VMAs earlier this year with the caption, "What a year, T! Love you, so proud and grateful to call you my friend. You are beyond. Happy Birthday — can't wait to celebrate soooon 💙"
Which begs the question: How will Swift top last year's FOMO-inducing extravaganza thrown for her 25th birthday? I mean, it's pretty hard to beat a party that included Beyonce, Ed Sheeran, and Justin Timberlake. Furthermore, how can fans best prepare ourselves for the wonder that is Swiftmas, coming in just a few weeks time? It's a lot to deal with, but if anyone can handle the pressure, it's clearly T.Swift. Happy birthday, Taylor!
