I already have so much love for the Jane the Virgin actress, so when Gina Rodriguez responded to the America Ferrera mix-up with positivity and grace, like the Grinch, my heart grew three sizes. During Thursday's 2016 Golden Globe nominations, nominees announcer Ferrera was mistaken for Rodriguez by the official Globes Twitter account. It received a lot of attention, but second-time Golden Globe nominee Rodriguez could care less, because who doesn't want to be Ferrera?
She told Entertainment Tonight, "I didn't hear anything until like recently somebody sent me an article. Who cares?! Who cares?!" The 31-year-old actress continued, "America's lovely. She's so beautiful and such a fantastic actress. If anybody I want to get mixed up with — it's her for sure!" The Golden Globe-winning actress said that accidents happen and everybody is guilty of making innocent mistakes. "To me, it's like, whatever," Rodriguez said. "We always make mix-ups in life, man."
As for the Hollywood Foreign Press Association? They gave Bustle the following statement: "What occurred this morning was an unfortunate error. Our sincerest apologies to both America and Gina."
I think it's safe to say that Rodriguez forgives them and is spending her time celebrating her second Golden Globe nomination, as she should.
If anyone can turn what came off as a negative situation into something positive, it's Rodriguez.
