Rihanna Dons Gold Dior Dress For Diamond Ball

by Amy Sciarretto

Gold and diamonds — who doesn't love those precious elements? Obviously, a certain fashion influencing pop star adores them. Rihanna wore a gold, satin Dior dress with a shawl, a slit, and lots of volume to her second annual Diamond Ball, which benefits her Clara Lionel Foundation. The dress was super full in its construction and it also had a push up bodice, giving extra lift to RiRi's cleavage. The shiny fabric actually reminded me of the rosy Zac Posen gown she wore to last year's Diamond Ball.

Rihanna's neck was dosed with diamonds, thanks to her tiered necklace. She was, as always, a vision. But I have to say that her metallic dress did feel a bit "safe" and it wasn't her most "wow!" inducing moment. Then again, how could she follow up the pizza memes that were a result of her 2015 Met Gala gown?

Even with the major slit and the cleavage, I could envision any A-lister wearing this and that's usually not the case with Rihanna's red carpet or "event" choices. Then again, maybe she didn't want the focus to be on her dress, but on her good cause. That's a noble goal, even for a style superstar like her.

The singer opted for slicked back, extra long hair, and soft, neutral makeup with a winged cat eye.

Since Rihanna is a Dior spokesmodel, it made perfect sense for her to show up in one the brand's amazing gowns.

The dress certainly didn't skimp on volume.

The shawl actually had lots of gathers from the back, making it super interesting.

Rihanna was a consummate golden girl. This dress definitely paid homage to the '80s, when gold lame was big.

Gorgeous! The color was like a glass of champagne come to life.

You can see that RiRi's hair was mega long.

As is always the case, Rihanna wore the dress. It didn't wear her.

Rihanna's 2014 Diamond Ball gown had a slim and trim mermaid silhouette, but the fabric was just as rich and shiny. There was a whole lot of sheen going on with both dresses, which had very different shapes.

Last year's frock also had a similar neckline. Overall, her 2014 look was more sleek and streamlined.

Rihanna also rocked a majorly lengthy pony at last year's event. So she opted for really long locks both years. For someone who constantly changes her look and style, that's pretty impressive.

I prefer her Zac Posen dress. I like the column shape and the ruby hue. But make no mistake. Rihanna shines bright like a fashion diamond no matter what she wears.
