Watch Lesbians Critique Lesbian Porn

Lesbian porn is widely regarded as the most consumed type of porn, but the mainstream variety also known to be pretty unrealistic — it's not terribly inclusive, and tends to depict people who fit only a very narrow definition of beauty not doing much beyond scissoring, holding each other's breasts, and gazing into one another's eyes. What actual lesbians think of lesbian porn, therefore, is a perennially popular subject — and it's exactly what one of BuzzFeed's latest videos focuses on. BuzzFeed asked a number of lesbians to critique lesbian porn and filmed the results, giving us a solid reminder that what we see in porn isn't necessarily how lesbians have sex — and that it's not typically made for the pleasure of the people its depicting at all.

This isn't to say that all lesbian porn is like this; however, most mainstream porn in general is made for the straight, male gaze, so the vast majority of mainstream lesbian porn in particular tends to be made for the straight, male gaze as well. Perhaps that's why there are so many videos floating around on the Internet made by lesbians urging people to see lesbian sex from a more diverse perspective than mainstream porn typically shows. "REAL Lesbians React to Lesbian Porn" shows lesbians discussing their frustrations with the porn industry using heterosexual women for lesbian scenes, for example, while "Lesbians Explain Sex to Straight People," also a Buzzfeed production, shows lesbians taking on the idea that sex equals only penetration. Interestingly, though, data analysis conducted by Pornhub in May showed that women are searching for lesbian porn more than men are; it strongly suggests that creators of mainstream porn might want to reevaluate who they're making videos for. Not everyone who watches porn is a straight man, so having more content available that appeals to diverse people, orientations, and tastes can only be a good thing.

1. "She's not going to join them, is she? THAT'S HER SISTER!"

Despite wild fantasies people might have about hot sisters getting it on with one another, it's pretty rare in real life — because, you know, incest is not a great thing and considered taboo in almost every society in the world. Lesbians aren't more prone to it than other people, porn industry, so let's scale back.

2. "She looks like she's giving her a medical exam."

Often, lesbian porn makes it seem like the women involved are just interested in pawing at one another instead of showing each other any level of intimacy. We do have feelings, I promise!

3. "Wax on, wax off."

News flash: Lesbian sex involves a heck of a lot more than just the "wax on, wax off" hand motion. Though sometimes waxing on and waxing off may be involved, it's definitely not the only thing that happens.

4. "This was clearly made for men."

And it shows exactly how much we need diversity in mainstream porn.
