How Did Adele NOT Get A Grammy Nom?

by Emily Lackey

It’s been a rough morning for Adele fans. When the 2016 Grammy nominations were announced on Monday morning at 8:15 a.m., every avid fan of Adele shed a tear over the fact that their favorite artist and singer was nowhere to be seen on the list. Some even threw their hands up in anger, shook their fists at the sky, or cried “WHY GOD WHY? Why wasn’t Adele nominated for a 2016 Grammy Award?"

Well, you fervent fans you, I’ll tell you why Adele wasn’t nominated for a 2016 Grammy Award, because you are not alone in needing an answer to this question. It turns out the nomination window for a 2016 Grammy Award is a lot more like your school’s cut-off date than like, you know, an actual calendar. In other words, in order for an album to be nominated for a Grammy Award in 2016, the album would have had to have been released during a certain time of the year. According to Grammy.com, that window for the 2016 awards is from October 1, 2014 until September 30, 2015.

In other words, Adele missed it by a mile. Having released her chart-topping album 25 on November 21, Adele is well outside the window for nomination.

But Adele-heads shouldn’t fret just yet. With this strict timeline in place for Grammy nominations, that just means that Adele, and her album 25, will have every opportunity to dominate the 2017 Grammys like the boss that she is.

And don’t you kind of feel like this is for the best? This way, she’ll have an entire year to release a bunch of singles that we will all fall in love with, do a ton of performances that will go viral online, and have some of her most popular songs remixed into dance tracks. (I’m picturing a rendition of “Hello” with a seriously sick beat.)

So, yeah, it sucks that Adele wasn’t nominated this year when her album is new and hot and the best thing ever. But that just means we have an entire year of Adele promoting and performing her album to look forward. Because, you know, a girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do to get nominated.
