Hard to believe another year is almost over — and that means awards season is gearing up. There was excitement around the announcement that Chris Rock is set to host the Oscars in 2016, but what about the Grammys? While post-2005 (when Queen Latifah hosted), the Grammys have either been hosted by no one or by LL Cool J, I think it's time to shake things up. Drake should host the 2016 Grammy Awards, hands down. Admit it: the "Hotline Bling" rapper would be an awesome choice and he's more than qualified to be the host with the most. Someone call him on his cell phone, because we need his love on the Grammys, stat.
According to Fuse, "Hotline Bling" wasn't submitted for Grammys consideration this year, so while Drake won't be taking home any bling during the 58th annual Grammy Awards, it would be nice to see him on that stage in some capacity, perhaps the host with the most leading the ceremony. Throughout his music career, he's shown that he's talented, charismatic, and just knows how to have a good time, not to mention he also had an acting career with a part on a little ol' Canadian teen soap called Degrassi in the early aughts. And let's face it: Drake would just be plain fun to have as the host of one of music's biggest nights.
But in case that's not enough, I've whittled my argument down to seven inarguable points:
1. He's Got The Dance Moves
Let's get this one out the way first — we all know Drake is an iconic dancer for dancing like literally no one would ever see him in the "Hotline Bling" video. Just see the now infamous moves above, to refresh your memory.
2. He Totally Killed It When He Hosted Saturday Night Live
I seriously don't think I've laughed harder at an episode of SNL than when Drake flawlessly hosted the NBC sketch show last year. Unlike a lot of celebrity hosts, he totally immersed himself in impressions (he took on A-Rod and Jay-Z, for starters) while also recreating his Bar Mitzvah in his hilarious opening monologue (above).
3. He Can Definitely Handle Hosting An Awards Show
Last year, Drake hosted the ESPY Awards and received rave reviews. During the show, Drake not only commanded the stage, but he also acted in numerous skits, including one where he did an impression of boxer Manny Pacquiao singing "Let It Go" from Frozen. Hilarious. Why hasn't this man hosted anything else since?
4. He Does Comedy So Well
Sure, Drake had to act out lots of melodrama during his time as wheelchair-bound basketball star Jimmy Brooks on Degrassi, but he also had his funny moments, too, throughout his nine seasons with the show.
5. He's A Bigger Star Than Ever Before
This year has truly been the Year Of Drake, with the rapper constantly in the news. If you hadn't heard about his feud with Meek Mill or "Hotline Bling," you might be living under a rock.
6. He's Daring
Drake isn't afraid to take chances, do impressions, dance like a dork, or make jokes. He's perfect for this.
7. *That* Smile
How could you say no to that? I can't.
I rest my case.
