Christmas is considered by many to be the most wonderful time of the year. But just like with any good thing, it also comes with a downside — like the fact that many of our beloved television shows will be going on a temporary hiatus. Take, for instance, the upcoming schedule for Reign Season 3. After this week's episode of "The Hound and the Hare," the royal-centric series will go on a brief holiday throughout the Christmas season. So when can we expect Reign to return? Thankfully, it doesn't seem as though fans will have to wait very long in the coming New Year to see Mary & Co. make their way back to the small screen. (If only we could say the same for our dearly departed Francis. #RIPForever)
While no exact return date has officially been announced, we do know for a fact that Reign 's winter finale will take place on Jan. 22 to help make way for The Vampire Diaries, which will pick up that time slot the following week. That means we have at least two or three episodes of Reign to look forward to prior to that point in time. With that in mind, I'm willing to bet that Reign will come back from its mini-holiday break no later than Jan. 8, giving itself a few weeks to build up to its midseason finale.
Granted, I'll admit that the idea of going a month without Reign still doesn't sound like the greatest news in the world. However, when you compare it to the amount of time we'll have to go without some of our other beloved shows (How To Get Away With Murder won't return until February!), this particular wait doesn't seem so bad. That's not to say, though, that we don't still have a few legitimate reasons to be concerned about Reign's future.
When The CW announced that The Vampire Diaries and The Originals would be moving to Friday nights at 8 p.m. and 9 p.m., respectively, they made very little room for Reign's eventual return. (And by "very little room" I mean none at all.) In fact, the network went on to make a statement that Reign will return "later in the season, night and time to be announced." Now, I don't know about the rest of you, but whenever there's any sort of vagueness about a show's future, I immediately start to get concerned. If the network can't make room for Reign now, who's to say they'll be able to find a place for it somewhere down the line? Could this be the beginning of the end to Reign's, uh, reign?
Of course, I may be going a tad overboard here, but you have to admit it doesn't look good. I mean, just when you thought moving to the Friday night death slot was bad enough, now the series has been completely taken off the grid indefinitely. So either the network is thinking of making Reign more of a summer show or we could be seeing a cancellation in our very near future. (Fingers crossed for the former rather than the latter.) Either way, let's all make sure to cherish these remaining episodes as much as we can — because we knows when we'll be getting more of them. Long may they reign.
