If anyone knows a thing or two about having confidence, it's Demi Lovato. On Monday, you might have seen Amy Schumer's 2016 Pirelli Calendar photo taken by famed photographer Annie Leibovitz. It immediately made headlines for all the right reasons: the Trainwreck actress showed, once again, that women are flawless, no matter their shape, size, color, or however society thinks women should look. Her confidence is beauty, and that's something another singer/actress can't help but express. On Tuesday, Demi Lovato praised Schumer's Pirelli photo via Instagram with an empowering message that speaks volumes.
Alongside Schumer's photo, Lovato wrote:
This is the perfect example of a #CONFIDENT woman taking a giant sh*t on society's twisted views of what perfection is. I wrote Confident with women like her (men too) and examples like this in mind. The attitude captured in this photo is brave, sexy and inspiring but most importantly REAL!!!! F*ck yeah @amyschumer. Women all over the world thank you for this. Especially me. #badb*tch
I couldn't have said it better myself. The 23-year-old singer is speaking for most women in her praises for Schumer's outspokenness when it comes to helping change the stigmas attached to women and the constant pressures they feel about their physical appearances.
For far too long, women have been held to certain standards and made to feel that in order to be considered beautiful, they need to be a certain size and look a particular way. Thankfully, women like Schumer and Lovato are changing those stereotypes for the better.
There is no one definition of what beauty is, as both Schumer and Lovato have proven, but you know what is damn attractive? Confidence. Take pride in yourself, love yourself, and treat yourself right despite whatever negativity is thrown your way. If that doesn't convince you, here's what Schumer wrote alongside her memorable and inspiring image when she posted it on Twitter: "Beautiful, gross, strong, thin, fat, pretty, ugly, sexy, disgusting, flawless, woman." Memorize it. Live it. Breathe it.
Forget society and follow in the footsteps those, like Schumer and Lovato, who know what true beauty is.
