Why You Need To Try Gold Leaf Hair

by Julia Musto

It’s the time of year when everyone you are Facebook friends with throws multiple parties and invites you to all of them without your permission. Although you’d rather be Netflix and mulled cider-ing, you are scouring the Internet for cool looks. Look no further: Gold leaf hair is here to pumpkin spice up your look and become your go-to holiday trend. There's nothing like some confidence-inducing hair bling to help quell the anxiety of seeing your high school ex out on Thanksgiving Eve (ugh).

You may have already seen Kylie Jenner's golden hair tattoo — and if you did, it probably blew your freakin' mind. This is where the gold leaf comes in.

As Refinery 29 points out, the first gold-leaf hair was seen at the Dries van Noten Spring 2014 show, and was very minimalist. A little bit of sparkly was placed along each models’ part lines. Since then, stylists have been playing with the trend and making it their own. This is most likely where Jenner drew her inspiration from.

Real gold leaf and gold leaf products online can be a bit costly, but sheets and metal leafing kits can be found for under $15! You just have to be willing to put in the work. Fortunately, the process doesn’t have to be very time consuming if you don’t want it to be.

According to Seventeen, in order to replicate or create your own leaf hair masterpiece you'll need a makeup brush, some mousse, and a cool idea. Remember, just because most people are using gold metallic leaf doesn’t mean you have to. If gold isn’t suited to your skin tone or you want to go for a more wintery look you can try silver or bronze leaf. Go as big or as small with the layers as you want for different effects. Match with your makeup and nails, wear a simple outfit (or don’t), and shine at your next party. Hey, if it's good enough for Kylie, it's good enough for me.

Here's a tutorial that shows you how to get the look using silver leaf. It's easier than it sounds!
