How To Change Your FB Picture To Support Paris
As the death toll from the Paris terrorist attacks continue to rise and the full extent of tragedy has yet to be fully realized, it is important to show the people of Paris — we support you, we love you, and we stand with you. But how can you properly show your support for those affected? How can you show Parisians that you are thinking of them and that they are not alone in this? One small way is to change your Facebook profile photo to support Paris.
It might seem obtuse to use the same media platform that your Aunt Mary uses to share photos of her apple pie, but this is exactly what Facebook was created for: Facebook documents everyday life, and the reality of the world we live in. No matter how far away you are or how different your life is from those affected in the Paris attacks, Facebook is the perfect tool to show the world that, in this moment, we are all Parisians. But, what's the best way to show your support of Paris? There are a few ways — from Facebook's new French flag filter to art of the Eiffel Tower that's gone viral around the web, there's no shortage of options.
Here are a few options, broken down:
Facebook Profile Filter
Similar to the rainbow filter that was used to show support for marriage equality, Facebook is allowing users to place the colors of the Paris flag over their current profile picture as a sort of filter. In your timeline, if someone uses the filter, the image will include a button on the bottom right hand side labeled, "Try it." Clicking it will take you to the "causes" feature of Facebook. Select "France" and adjust the blue, white, and red filter to correctly lay over your image. Click, "Use As Profile Picture," and Facebook will update your Facebook with the new image.
Use The Paris Peace Sign Image
This simple picture designed by French graphic designer Jean Jullien makes a great profile picture. It shows love for Paris and the hope for a more peaceful tomorrow.
Personal Photo of Paris
Parisians love their city. You can show your support using a personal photo of Paris and including a story of your own experience with the city of love as your profile picture.
Support Your Favorite French Media
Show your love of France and its culture by using some its famous icons as your profile picture.
Use the French Flag As Your Profile Picture
The three bars of blue, white, and red are an iconic representation of France, always and forever.
It will be a long road to recovery for France and the city of Paris, but showing the international community supports them is likely a small help in the face of this unimaginable tragedy.
