You Have to See These Two As Tweens

You know how when you were some point between the ages of 11 and 14, you didn't look quite right? Like maybe you looked like your nose didn't belong on your face or your teeth were really screwed up or your hair seemed to suddenly turn into a gigantic poofy mess? Those are the awkward years and everyone has them. Or so I thought. Judging by a photo Kim Kardashian Instagramed of herself and Nicole Richie at age 13 yesterday, the future Mrs. West skipped the awkward years entirely.

Kardashian is known for looking impeccable at all times. Sure she tends to make some mistakes with the clothes she chooses, but she always has her make-up done, always has a super-styled outfit, and never has a hair out of place. I just didn't realize this I'm-ready-for-every-photo thing had been going on for so long. I'm starting to think this isn't something that's forced but rather just deeply embedded in her being.

In the Instagram picture, Nicole Richie looks like she's definitely 13. Her braces give that away immediately. She's also got something kind of weird going on with her hair and her expression shows that she maybe wasn't totally ready for this picture. Now I'm not insulting a 13-year-old here, I'm just saying Richie looks very 13 and I would've given off the exact same aura at that age.

Kardashian, on the other hand, has nicely groomed eyebrows, ridiculously perfect teeth, non-embarrassing hair, and no signs of acne whatsoever. What the hell? Where are the weird, messed up pictures of a tween Kim Kardashian? Nowhere because they don't exist. Kris Jenner either went on a crazy tirade and got them all removed from the Earth Farenheit 451 style or Kim Kardashian bypassed the awkward years altogether. (Also, and I won't get into the plastic surgery rumors, but Kardashian looks so natural here — natural hair, natural skin, natural lips — she should really stick with it.)

The photo is captioned, "#ThrowbackThursday @nicolerichie and I being oh so cool at 13 years old." Are you trying to sound sarcastic, Kim? Because maybe this pic isn't "cool," but you look gorgeous and are making everyone jealous of a 13-year-old's teeth and eyebrows. That's just wrong.
