Try These '20s Inspired Makeup Tutorials
As a fan of retro style in general, I love seeing celebrities rock classic styles on the red carpet. But with pictures of Kris Jenner's Gatsby-themed birthday party surfacing online, it struck me that some decades get more love than others. Remember when Mad Men was all the rage, and '60s-inspired fashion was popping up everywhere you looked? Neatly tailored suits and fitted sheath dresses were everywhere for a few years. The sculpted waves of the '30s and '40s will always be popular on the red carpet — notable fans including Scarlett Johansson and Blake Lively. Even the '70s are seeing a resurgence recently, both in high fashion and on the high street (but let's not forget that the decade granted us this horror).
The Kardashian-Jenner birthday bash highlighted a period in fashion and beauty whose significance is often overlooked. The Roaring '20s were not only a great time to party, but also the beginning of a revolution in makeup and fashion. With women seeking to emulate the pouting lips and smooth complexions of movie stars, makeup became commercially available. Compact rouge or blush, lipstick, and mascara were all at women's disposal for the first time. Also, flappers.
In honor of this revolutionary period, and the Gatsby moment spurred on by the Kardashian and Jenner clan, let's take a look at seven '20s inspired makeup looks you can wear this weekend.
