A certain hot-to-trot designer isn't letting his ouster from one of fashion's most beloved houses deter him from making forward progress or from moving on to new things. Fashion darling Alexander Wang is partnering with The Weekend and his XO clothing brand. For what? Well, we don't really know just yet. Wang posted a simple, black and white teaser video on Instagram, encouraging us to "Stay Tuned" about #WangXO.
Duh! As if we weren't going to stay tuned or get all excited about this designer x music collabo. These two are taking their fashion friendship to the next level.
Details are scarce, so all we can do is speculate. Perhaps Wang will co-design some capsule pieces for XO? Maybe Wang and The Weekend will partner for a co-branded collection? Maybe they will stage an epic fashion show that's driven by the artist's music? It could be anything really. All I know is that I am eagerly anticipating more information about this mashup.
The news comes little more than a year after Wang's dystopian H&M collection hit stores. Also, Wang famously split with Balenciaga earlier this year, exiting his post as creative director after a dazzling and whirlwind stint. Clearly, he has moved on and isn't letting one of fashion's most discussed breakups stand in his way or cloud his vision.
The video merges the logos of both brands in a stark color palette. Black is the color that Wang is best known for, as well.
Music and fashion collabos are nothing new, whether it's a musical artist that owns and operates his or her own brand or whether it's a singer serving as the face of a brand and appearing in advertising.
Some of my favorite music and style mashups are as follows.
Lady Gaga walked in Thierry Mugler's fashion show back in 2011.
She also played assistant to her stylist Brandon Maxwell at this year's fashion week.
Fifth Harmony singer Normani Kordei served as the muse for fashion x music brand The Psylence.
Rihanna co-designed a line for River Island.
That style chameleon known as Katy Perry is the face of Moschino, even if her Met Gala dress is at the center of a lawsuit.
Then there is the TBD Beyonce x Topshop activewear line that we're all waiting impatiently for.
Yes, there are tons of legit music x fashion collabos, but these are the ones that always stick with me.
That said, I cannot wait to see what #WangXO will bring. So bring it, dudes!
