Rhinestone-Encrusted NFL Helmets, Because Obv

by Sara Tan

Despite the stereotype that fashion and sports don't mesh, we know there are tons of you out there who spend your Sunday mornings shopping online in front of a football game. For that reason, we know you’d be as excited as we were when we heard that the CFDA linked 48 top fashion designers, Bloomingdale's, and the NFL to create limited-edition helmets. Yes, football helmets. But not the kind covered in grass stains and dirt. We’re talking diamond-encrusted, flower-adorned, leather-accented helmets.

So, why the strange, but awesome collaboration? “This is the first time that the Super Bowl will be held in the New York region and we couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate by joining Bloomingdale’s and the NFL in merging fashion and sports with the creation of these unique helmets,” said Steven Kolb, CFDA CEO.

Of the 48 designers, notable names include Alice + Olivia, Badgley Mishka, Betsey Johnson, Rag & Bone, Diane von Furstenberg, Helmut Lang, and Steven Alan.

Each of the helmets will be auctioned online from January 15 through February 4 with the starting bid of $248, and 100 percent of the proceeds will go to the NFL Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to the lives affected by football, including youth and high school programs and health initiatives.
