Drake Might Remix "Hotline Bling" With Bieber

by Alex Kritselis

I was not prepared for this: Apparently, a Drake and Justin Bieber "Hotline Bling" remix might be in the works. Wait, really? Really. On Friday, Bieber posted a photo of himself on Instagram with "1-800-HOTLINEBLING REMIX" written across the middle. The caption reads, "Should I? Love to my bro @champagnepapi. Canadian boys really doing it. #PURPOSE." On his Twitter account, the "What Do You Mean?" singer mysteriously teased that "Part 1" is coming later today. Interesting.

(Update: The remix is in fact real, and you can hear it in full here.)

So, did the Biebs already hop on a "Hotline Bling" remix with Drake? Or is he truly just trying to gauge his fans' reaction to the idea? I suspect it's the former. I don't think Bieber would've said anything about the collab on social media if it hadn't already been recorded. (Plus, we're supposedly getting "Part 1" — whatever that means — today.) I wouldn't say that Drake's massive hit needs a Bieber feature, exactly, but it could be a smart career move for him.

After all, remixes can help propel a song to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart, and currently, "Hotline Bling" is stuck at No. 2. Believe it or not, Drake has yet to earn a No. 1 single on the Hot 100 ("Best I Ever Had" peaked at No. 2 in 2009) — and this could be his big chance. I mean, are there two male artists hotter than Drake and Bieber right now? I don't think so.

Aside from a few minor missteps (including an incident Thursday where he stormed off stage in the middle of a concert), so far, Bieber's career rehabilitation campaign has gone surprisingly well. In fact, "What Do You Mean?" just recently became his first No. 1. At this point, anything with Bieber's name attached to it is bound to sell. However, there's one major obstacle — err, person — standing in Drake's way: Adele.

Billboard predicts that the British diva's new single, "Hello," will debut at No. 1 on the upcoming edition of the Hot 100, breaking "the record for the most downloads ever sold in a week." Whoa. Something tells me that when "Hello" reaches the chart's summit, it's going to stay there for a long, long time. Even a dynamite "Hotline Bling" remix might not be able to knock it off the top spot! I guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens.

Hopefully, we'll find out more info regarding the Drake and Justin Bieber "Hotline Bling" remix very soon.
