All you crazy kids out there sure do work fast. The song has only been out since Oct. 23, and already there are a whole handful of parodies of Adele's "Hello" up on the Internet. And not just the kind of crappy parodies that I would throw up just to be part of the conversation, although those are certainly out there, but good, clever send-ups of this heart-wrenching video. I don't know how you all do it, especially in under a week. The original video, in all its black and white glory, is of course about Adele apologizing, or trying, to a former lover, whose heart she broke long ago. It's the perfect song to listen to if you were ever the bad guy in a breakup, and, since I'm assuming we've all been there and I'm not the only one, "Hello" rings so true that it's left tear tracks on more than its fair share of faces already.
But that's just the original. In the spoof versions, people play with almost every element that I loved from the instant classic, from the retro flip phone to the blowing wind to the one-sided relationship. And, somehow, even though they're all poking fun, it just makes me love them all the more, because you can tell it's being done in a spirit of love. Honestly, how can you not love the song and the video? You'd have to be some kind of stone-hearted monster.
And, if that's the case, and you are the aforementioned monster, you probably won't like all these very funny videos I rounded up. Everyone else — you should be okay to watch.
1. Ellen DeGeneres
Way to tie Drake's "Hotline Bling" video in there as well, good eye. Except now I'm totally craving salt and vinegar potato chips.
2. Bruce Springsteen
Um, why are you calling this number, no way.
3. Lionel Richie
HEART-BREAKING AND HILARIOUS AND PERFECT I'M OBSESSED. (And very calm.)
4. Liam Neeson in Taken
Haaaaa, I love that she doesn't stop singing even as he's threatening her. So good.
5. YouTubers
Clinging to my youth just a little longer, because I recognized almost all of these YouTube personalities!
6. This Guy
Swap Chili's out for Chipotle, and I'm embarrassed I didn't think of this concept earlier for my own self.
7. These Guys
Leaves aggressively blowing into faces will get me every time.
8. Scream
Seems like a missed opportunity for a "the call is coming from inside the house" reference, but it made me chuckle even without it, so I'll give it to you.
Well, would you look at that? You just laughed at a music video that's had you crying into your mirror since the day it dropped. It's an Adele miracle!
