The Best Moves From The "Say You'll Be There" Vid
Approximately one year before the Spice Force Five kicked a foosball ball right into our hearts, the world was introduced to another girl power-preserving superheroes: Katrina Highkick, Trixie Firecracker, Kung Fu Candy, Midnight Miss Suki, and Blazin' Bad Zula. They are, but of course, the "Say You'll Be There" Music Video Five. In 1996, the music video for the second single off of Spice was released in Europe (the vid would not make it across the pond until '97). In the Vaughan Arnell-directed “Say You’ll Be There” music video, Melanie “Scary Spice” Brown, Melanie “Sporty Spice” Chisholm, Emma “Baby Spice” Bunton, Victoria “Posh Spice” Beckham (née Adams), and Geri “Ginger Spice” Halliwell play a martial arts-savvy squad. Their mission: protect girl power at any cost.
Though "Say You'll Be There" is not the pop group's most choreography-heavy music video, that is not to say it is completely devoid of movement altogether. There's no shortage of swinging, shaking, moving, or making in this clip. The moves executed by Melvin B., Emma, Melvin C., Victoria, and Gary are so good that the entire planet should be asking the "Say You'll Be There" music video to have mercy on our lipgloss.
There's Emma's Double Claw Move
The bright blue gloves really push this over the edge.
And Victoria's Slither Move
The poshest snake I ever did see.
Really Diggin' Everything Mel C. Does Here
The casual nod really ties it all together.
Gotta Love Emma & Mel B.'s Lasso Moves
While Baby Spice sticks with a classic version of the movement, Mel B. puts a slow-mo spin on the lasso pantomime.
Victoria's Oxygen Grab Move Is Nothing Short Of Fantastic
It's as if she snatches up some O2 and hands it directly to her lungs.
Really Obessed With Everything Happening Here
Sorry, can't pick a favorite move.
Same Can Be Said About Everything Happening Here
So many great hip swivel moves, so little time.
Oh, And Ditto For Everything Happening Here!
I MEAN.
I Simply Cannot Handle Mel C.'s Laser Tumble Move
I wish my acro teacher taught me how to shoot lasers from my hands.
I'm All About Geri's Body Roll Fakeout Move
Just when you think she's about to go into a body roll, BAM! She hits you with a shoulder roll. The move is subtle, albeit very effective.
Can't Stop Doing Emma's In A Wonder World Aquarium Move
It looks like she's swimming in one of those gel aquarium toys from the '90s.
And Finally, Mel B.'s Stomp It Out Body Roll Move
If there was ever a way to get from point A to point B, it's this move.
Revisiting this video will give you everything, all that joy can bring, this I swear:
