There has been a beautiful yet unusual accessory gracing spring 2016's catwalk shows: The humble ribbon. Considering ribbon fashion took center stage at multiple shows, it appears this detail is set to be a pretty big trend for early next year. It's no wonder, really, when you consider just how versatile these babies are.
At Mary Katrantzou's spring 2016 RTW show, for instance, the models sported Petersham ribbon worn around their necks in a '90s choker style, simultaneously using them to tie around a section of their hair at the back. Dior seemed to be in on this trend too, but it adapted the look slightly different. Dior's models wore choker ribbons that secured a low ponytail at the nape of the neck. Oscar de la Renta skipped the choker part entirely, with models wearing low ponytails and finishing things off with a bow.
When a trend becomes hot like this, it's difficult to know who thought up the idea first, but perhaps the designers were inspired by iconic women of the past who wore hair ribbons. This is not a new trend, but rather one pulled to the forefront from the archives and given a modern flourish. Why not be a step ahead of the ribbon trend of spring/summer 2016 and start rocking ribbon fashion now?
