6 Reasons to Get Excited for 'The Tonight Show'

by Martha Sorren

NBC has released their first promo for The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon. Though Fallon's switch from Late Night won't happen for over a month, the promo has gotten us all excited imagining what fun Fallon is sure to bring to Jay Leno's old show. Fallon has already acknowledged that he won't attempt to mimic how Leno has already executed the show, instead saying he's essentially going to bring everything Late Night to The Tonight Show. “I’m not going to change anything. It’s more eyeballs watching but it’s the same show," he said. But Leno gave him advice anyway, encouraging Fallon to give "longer monologues ... some people don’t have time to see the news and they catch up on the news from your monologue sometimes. Give them a good monologue, a good solid eight- to 10-minute monologue.”

Whether Fallon decides to listen to the man who was wrongly-fired according to Senator Ted Cruz, is up to him, but frankly we're excited that Fallon plans to bring Late Night to Tonight because it means more awesome Fallon shenanigans like he's already brought us.

1. AWESOME GUESTS

Like the President of the United States.

2. FUNNY MUSICAL SKETCHES

Jimmy Fallon will forever hold my heart because he made the Joseph Gordon-Levitt lip sync battle happen and we got JGL rapping to Nicki Minaj with surprising talent.

He also teamed up with Rashida Jones and Carrie Underwood to sing some pop song-inspired Thanksgiving tunes like a Black Friday number to the tune of "Blurred Lines" (So much better than the original, obvs)

3. GAMES

Who doesn't like games? Not Jimmy Fallon. There's almost nothing better than when he gets celebrities to let loose on his show. He's competed with Liam Hemsworth in a cooler scooter race complete with beer hat, lost to Kate Upton in her first-ever game of flip cup (I'm sure it was totally her first, for sure), and played Box of Lies with Tina Fey in which random objects are hidden in boxes and Fallon had to guess whether Fey is telling the truth or lying when she says her box contains a cold BallPark frank in a ziplock bag.

I look forward to many more Fallon games in the future.

4. THANK YOU NOTES

One of Fallon's best reoccurring sketches is his thank you notes to random things that are so deeply relatable and funny. Thank you Jimmy Fallon for writing thank you notes to remind us of the simple joys in life.

5. MORE THINGS AS GREAT AS THE TIME HARRISON FORD PIERCED JIMMY'S EAR

For real. Like for real in real life. And then this happened:

6. SETH MEYERS

Fallon's move to The Tonight Show means that Seth Meyers is leaving Saturday Night Live and heading down like two floors to the Late Night stage. Ordinarily I'd be super bummed that Meyers was leaving SNL, but this new show is going to be so great because it'll be like an hour of Weekend Update which is the best part of SNL anyway, let's be honest.

So be sure to tune into The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon on February 17, and Late Night with Seth Meyers on February 24. And to tide you over for now, you can watch NBC's passing of The Tonight Show

torch. Get excited!
