How To Throw A Perfect '90s Halloween Party

by Kat Kuehl

OK, so you could throw a standard Halloween party. But, if you want to take things up a notch, a '90s Halloween party is where it's at — especially if you and your friends grew up during that decade, because there's nothing quite like reliving the magic of the Halloween holiday in the greatest time period in American history.

Admittedly, I don't think I ever had a Halloween party during the actual '90s. Of course, I wasn't old enough to throw a rager on my own. So, I'll blame my parents for the fact that I missed out on amazing '90s Halloween festiveness. But, if I did, you can bet there would've been screenings of the classic '90s Halloween movies, my favorite '90s Halloween candies, and even a milky pen craft station. Sounds like a party you'd want to be at, right?

Luckily, I can throw my own '90s Halloween shindig now, and make all of my childhood dreams come true. And, pulling together a '90s-themed celebration is surprisingly easy. There are just a few key elements you need to be sure to have at your party.

So, here's your guide to throwing the most amazing throwback Halloween bash your '90s-loving heart could have ever wished for. Get ready to have the time of your life.

1. Show your favorite '90s Halloween movies and TV shows.

It's the perfect opportunity to screen those classic Halloween films. So, whip out Hocus Pocus , Halloweentown , The Nightmare Before Christmas , and The Addams Family . Of course, they're even better if you can play them on VHS.

2. Dress as either a Power Ranger, a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle, or Ghostface.

Of course, you could dress up in all of the classic '90s gear, with scrunchies, neon colors, and even a fanny pack. But, since this is a Halloween party, you want to be festive! So, deck yourself out in a wildly popular '90s Halloween costume instead.

3. Have plenty of your favorite childhood candy.

No Halloween party is complete without candy. Put out a ton of WarHeads, Pixy Stix, Airheads, Bubble Tape, Push Pops, and Jawbreakers for some '90s nostalgia — and one heck of a sugar rush.

4. Give amazing party favors.

Send your guests out the door with their own piece of the '90s. If you want to stick with a Halloween theme, see if you can get your hands on some McDonald's Halloween Happy Meal toys, or some old copies of Goosebumps books. If nothing else, you can always give away some scrunchies, gel pens, or slap bracelets.

5. Play your favorite '90s games.

Nothing gets a party going like a little bit of friendly competition. Turn on a game of Mario Kart. Or, liven things up with some Twister or Jumanji. If you're feeling extra creative, you can create your own Halloween-themed Mad Libs.

6. Take tons of pictures — with a Polaroid camera.

Remember those instant Polaroid cameras? They're the perfect '90s touch to capture all of the hilarity of your Halloween party. Of course, you'll want to take some regular photos too. Because this party is definitely going to be Instagram-worthy.

7. Create the ultimate '90s playlist.

A party simply isn't a party without some amazing music and dancing. Whether you're in the mood for Santana and Smash Mouth, or you want some Britney Spears and Alanis Morissette, the perfect '90s playlist is sure to get your party started.
