With only a few days left until Season 18 of The Bachelor premieres, ABC is really pushing for us all to get to know the new Bachelor in the house, Juan Pablo Galavis. Though you might remember him as one of the dudes who lost on Desiree Hartsock's season of The Bachelorette, he's way more than just that — and both he and ABC stress that this season is going to be way different than anything we're used to seeing on this show. For one, as Juan Pablo Galavis is the first Latino star on The Bachelor, and the show is definitely going to reflect that this season.
He told the Hollywood Reporter: "I am the Bachelor, and I am a Latino, and obviously it’s going to be me," he explained during a recent conference call. "So, there’s going to be a lot of Latino things in the show — a lot, you know, just me. ... It’s going to be a lot of food, a lot of dancing, a lot of stuff. I’m going to tell you, it’s going to be so different that you’re going to love it."
Additionally, Galavis — who's a former pro soccer player from Venezuela — says that he's been receiving positive feedback from the Latino community for his presence on the show, and the fact that he's the first Latino Bachelor in the show's entire history.
"People are just happy...and it just – it's not that I’m a Latino … because also I’m Spanish, you know. Another fact that [whether you are] a Latino or not, it's just, you know, it’s not easy to find somebody for the show, and also in The Bachelorette or The Bachelor to find people from different cultures. They don’t understand this show; they don’t want to be in this show. So it's not easy and definitely their reaction has been great and I’m happy."
I'm sure it helps that he's hot, too.
The Bachelor, featuring Galavis, will premiere on ABC on Jan. 6.
