Remember a few months ago when Ariana Grande went on an epic feminist rant? She wrote an empowering post on Instagram that raised worthwhile points about misogyny and unfair double standards. Well, once again Grande is preaching about girl power and I'm all about it. On Saturday, Grande shared support for Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez by praising their latest albums. This led to a heartwarming exchange between all three singers that was a much-needed reminder of the importance of women raising each other up, instead of tearing one another down.
Upon first glance, it's easy to assume these ladies are one another's competition. After all, Grande's new single "Focus" comes out on Oct. 30, while Gomez's Revival debuted on Oct. 9 and Lovato's Confident just came out this week. Yet instead of taking it as a moment to boost their own record sales, they showed love for each other's work. Grande said it best herself when she wrote,
i love nothing more than seeing young women doing what they love & kicking ass at it.
This incredibly important message spreads a theme of sisterhood, instead of rivalry. There's no reason all three can't have amazing music careers, and one's success doesn't hinder the others'. It was clear Gomez agreed, when she tweeted, "AMEN" in response with a bunch of heart emojis.
How could this exchange not fill your heart with joy? It's seriously awesome to see these ladies come together. Of course Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez's long-standing friendship is not a surprise, but I had no idea Grande was part of their crew. But the more the merrier, right?
Acknowledging other people's success is the right attitude to have, and I applaud these three for doing so publicly. Grande is right — they're all young women who are "doing what they love and kicking ass." That's certainly something worth celebrating!
