Tom Hiddleston Is So Eloquent About His Sex Scene

by Michelle McGahan

One Direction may have just released "Perfect," but the hottest thing to grace the public on Friday was undoubtedly Tom Hiddleston in Crimson Peak. Since the gothic horror film is now officially in theaters, that long-awaited Hiddleston sex scene is now here and it's a good one. Though there is no doubt that the steamy love scene is so sultry it may transform you into the wide-eyed, blushing face emoji, there is actually a good reason for Tom Hiddleston to be mostly nude in Crimson Peak . And no, it's not just because it's an opportunity for fans to blatantly objectify the handsome actor.

In a new interview with MTV News, the actor opened up about the sex scene and why he decided to bare it all — and his reasoning is so sophisticated and elegant, it hurts. (Though, let's be honest, is anyone really surprised?)

"If it's part of the story, and it's intrinsic to it, I don't have any vanity about that," Hiddleston said to MTV. "Specifically with Crimson Peak. It's a gothic romance, and sort of underneath gothic romance are these polarizing forces of sex and death. All of us always make choices which are impelled by sexuality."

Translation? Since sexuality is such an important theme in the film, it's important that Hiddleston, who not only wants to move the plot forward but also make things realistic as an actor, gives the movie what it needs. And in this case, it needs some legit, no holds-barred Hiddleston steaminess.

"I realized that scene in Crimson Peak is such a huge and profound part of the story," he said. "Actually, that's where the love story begins, and it comes out of sexuality, and I was OK with that."

Much like that time Shailene Woodley revealed why she was cool with nude scenes in films ("I don't know about you," she told Glamour at the time, "but I don't have sex with bras and panties on"), Hiddleston wanted his sex scene with his character's new wife Edith (Mia Wasikowska) to be believable because it's such an important part of the film.

And yes, though there may be some fans who can't get past the appeal of Hiddleston nude in this film, it's good to know that there's more than just salaciousness behind the memorable scene.
