Khloe & Fam Shouldn't Have To Explain Themselves

by Allyson Koerner

In the aftermath and unfortunate situation of NBA player Lamar Odom's hospitalization after being found unconscious at a Nevada brothel Tuesday (as confirmed by the Nye County Sheriffs in a statement), the Kardashian family released a joint statement regarding Odom Thursday. Their statement, which was posted on their individual websites, reads: "As a family, we've decided to hold off on publishing content across our apps while we continue to support and pray for Lamar. Thank you for your kindness and understanding during this difficult time." This was a way for the reality family to not only show Odom support, but also an opportunity to shut down ridiculous rumors and tell everyone — especially the media and paparazzi — that their privacy should be respected. But the way I see it, the Kardashians releasing a Lamar statement is unnecessary.

By no means am I trying to disrespect the Kardashians and Jenners, because I understand why they released the statement. However, it's crazy that they even have to give a big family statement under these circumstances. They shouldn't have to tell everyone to respect their privacy. Isn't being respectful to others just plain common sense? In the world of Hollywood and celebrities, commenting on a given trying situation is pretty much standard procedure, but it's unfortunate that anything has to be said at all. When it comes to someone's life hanging in the balance and an extremely emotional time, it's sad that people just want to infiltrate the lives of anyone, especially the Kardashians (like most do on a daily basis).

From wanting to know about whether or not Kim Kardashian's baby shower would go on to the rumors that the Kardashians are filming Odom's hospitalization for Keeping Up With the Kardashians to trying to "catch" the family living their lives and doing their jobs, well, it's beyond disrespectful.

Does giving away part of your privacy kind of come with the territory of being famous? Yes, it does, but that still doesn't make it right for individuals to poke and prod at their every move when they're all simply trying to figure out how to be during this difficult time.

With that said, let's all remember (whether you're a fan of the Kardashians or not) that they're going through something incredibly tough right now and are owed respect and kindness. And while they've silenced rumors that they're doing anything but dealing with their emotions right now, that shouldn't have even been a question in the first place.
