The sports and entertainment world was delivered some shocking news on the evening of Tuesday, Oct. 13 when TMZ reported that Lamar Odom was allegedly hospitalized after being found unconscious in his room at Dennis Hof's Love Ranch South, a Nevada brothel where he was allegedly staying. The exact state of the former NBA player's health is currently unknown, but considering how suddenly the claims came about, fans of Odom are likely reminded of past drug abuse allegations made against Odom. Bustle has reached out to a rep for the Kardashian-Jenner family, but has not yet heard back.
According to TMZ, Odom was allegedly found unconscious in his room on Tuesday afternoon. Reportedly, a manager who rolled him over and saw a "mucus-type liquid coming out of his nose [and] mouth." Additionally, TMZ reports that Odom was allegedly "taking an herbal substitute for Viagra." According to the site, the former husband of Khloe Kardashian is allegedly now being transferred from a local Pahrump, Nevada hospital to one in Las Vegas for further treatment.
(Update: According to a tweet posted by USA Today sports reporter Jeff Zillgitt, the Nye County, Nevada Sheriff's Office released a statement on Odom. Read the entire statement below.)
As for whether the current situation is related to his rumored drug abuse issues in the past, it's impossible to say. What we do know is that Odom denied having a drug problem in a video obtained by TMZ in September 2013. In the video, Odom was asked by a TMZ reporter whether he had a drug problem and responded that he did not.
After this, though, in Novermber 2013, a video surfaced, also on TMZ, of Odom rapping about doing drugs and cheating on then-wife Kardashian.
In addition, there were rumors of Odom's alleged drug use around the same time in 2013 with some reports claiming he'd briefly entered rehab, while other claimed he was spending up to $800 a day on drugs.
As for more concrete evidence of possible issues Odom was facing, he was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence in August 2013. According to the Los Angeles Times, Odom "refused chemical tests to determine his level of alleged intoxication." He later pled no contest on that arrest and was sentenced to "three years' probation and three months of alcohol abuse treatment," according to the AP. And, as recently as September 2015, talk of Odom's alleged drug abuse was still making headlines. In September, fellow basketball player Caron Butler spoke to TMZ about Odom voicing concern about his friend, saying, "I worry about him."
For now, fans and friends of Odom a like are no doubt concerned about what's going on, whether or not it's related to his alleged past with drugs. We will continue to update as news is released.
