How To Make A Pumpkin Keg That Really Works

by Kathryn Kattalia

Carving pumpkins is one of those Halloween traditions that never gets old, even when you're a fancy, grown-ass adult. This year, skip the scary-faced jack-o'-lanterns and use your carving tools to make something you can actually use — a gorgeous gourd filled with delicious, seasonal ale. Knowing how to make a pumpkin keg is a life skill you can really use all through adulthood. It's one of those party tricks that will always be popular, because beer will always be popular. You wanna win Halloween? This is how you do it.

Oh, and did I mention it's insanely easy? Carving pumpkins as a kid used to always stress me out — after about 10 minutes of trying to follow one of those weird patterns that came with your standard carving kits, I was ready to throw in the towel. I mean, hand cramps, people. For your pumpkin keg, you simply have to cut a hole at the top of your pumpkin, scoop out the gunk inside, and cut a smaller hole where you want your ale-dispensing spigot to go. And then, as a reward for all your hard labor, you get to drink beer. Like, a whole pumpkin full of beer. Why are you still sitting here? As far as Halloween goes, this is the easiest trick in the book.
